Cello for Your Music
Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico and willing to travel.
Similar to a drummer who has jazz sensibilities and plays all styles, Ryan has classical sensibilities and plays all styles.
I'm a bit of a musical chameleon who can go far beyond the Americana vibes in the music posted above. Although this is my personal favorite genre, I love all music.
"There's always room for cello" is something I've heard from many musicians. The truth is, there's a learning curve for fitting cello nicely into non-classical music. Cello has a subtle yet very present sound color in a mix. I wouldn't call myself a perfectionist, but I have very high standards, including being as tasteful as possible.
Similar to you, I've spent years playing bass, guitar, and drums. My training is simply a tool I use in music making. I'm completely comfortable with and amazed by musicians who work only by ear.
Here are the ways I work:
-
improvise or write the part(s)
-
I read sheet music very well, any clef
-
chord charts are great
-
I can learn lines and chord progressions by ear quickly
I believe in checking any ego at the door. I'm eager to learn and make the best music possible, and will gladly do what it takes, whether it's a live situation or a studio session. (I also have an electric cello with effects, should the stage volume be loud and you want me to rock or make weird sounds with the band.) I'm ready to talk music with you, and no pressure.
